Cactaceae Systematics Initiatives

The Bulletins of the Cactaceae Consensus Initiatives / Cactaceae Systematics Initiatives Groups provide a useful focus for tidying cactus taxonomy issues, particularly leading up to the publication of the New Cactus Lexicon in 2006. The following articles and excerpts are relevant to the genus Copiapoa and are © 1998-2006  David Hunt and individual contributors, reproduced here by kind permission. Every effort has been made to ensure that the on line text is faithful to the original publication.

Copiapoa excerpt:

On a further review of this difficult genus at the meeting on 3 May 2003, the screening group reverted to Nigel Taylor's view (in Walters et al. (eds), European Garden Flora 3:254, 1989) that Ritter's 'C. tenuissima', recently validated as a subspecies of C. hypogaea, is more closely related to C. humilis:

14219 Copiapoa humilis ssp tenuissima (Ritter ex D. Hunt) D. Hunt comb. nov. B14068 C. hypogaea ssp. tenuissima Ritter ex D. Hunt, Cact. Syst. Init. 13:14 (2002)
